Application Process

  • Application packets can be submitted at any given time; however there are deadlines for the fall, spring and summer semesters. Deadlines are usually a few months prior to the end of the semester.
  • Application packets include: application, cover letter, resume and (3) printed samples of your work.
  • New internships are available for the fall and spring term. During the summer term, only former interns are eligible to apply for the summer internship abroad.
  • After the application deadline, all candidate’s information will be reviewed and an interview may follow.
  • On average 10 – 12 students are selected each semester.
  • Due to the limited number of positions, you may need to apply more than once.

Internship Eligibility/Requirements

  • Any major is eligible to apply at Imagewest. It’s important to have a basic foundation in this field first. Unless you have previous school or work experience, it’s ideal for most students to apply their junior or senior year.
  • All interns must register for a course. Internship courses include, but are not limited to:
    1. JOUR 448 (Advertising) – 3.0 credit hours
    2. JOUR 458 (PR) – 3.0 credit hours
    3. Co-op 399 & 499 (Graphic Design)
    4. Co-op 200 (Career Services and available to all) – no credit hours, no grade
  • JOUR electives do require students to have 18 credit hours completed in their major and permission from the program coordinator.
  • Depending on your availability, all interns will have a set work schedule. Usually students will work approx. 16 hours a week, during Monday through Friday 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
  • The internship will begin the week prior to the semester starting and end the week before finals.
  • 240 hours must be completed.
  • The agency is closed for University holidays including fall and spring break.
  • Students must follow their course syllabus and fulfill all requirements which includes: a learning plan, weekly journal, data report form, final written report and anything else requested by their professor.

International Summer Internship Abroad

  • Only former interns are eligible to apply for the summer internship abroad.
  • There will be a mandatory informational meeting to kick off the application process.
  • After the application deadline, all candidate’s information will be reviewed and an interview may follow.
  • On average 4-6 students are selected for the summer abroad internship.
  • Students earn course credit during the internship – JOUR 481 Imagewest Internship Abroad. The course is divided into three parts: research/analysis, design/development, and evaluation.
  • Imagewest utilizes the revenue it generates to fund the trip and provide Summer Abroad Internship Scholarships to cover a portion of the student’s airfare and course cost.
  • Trip costs are minimal including a portion of the airfare expense, food, passport, immunizations, spending money and misc.
  • Client provides a variety of things including acceptable housing and work area.
