About the Program

Goals

  • To train future global leaders in the Advertising and Public Relations industries to be more effective, respectful of other cultures and political and economic systems.
  • Improve and develop international advertising and public relations skills through relevant practice.
  • Learn to partner and facilitate a positive working relationship with businesses and/or organizations in another country and culture utilizing problem-solving and critical thinking
  • All Imagewest interns are eligible to compete for positions such as pr coordinator, account executive, graphic designer, broadcast coordinator and web designer
  • Provides international client with agreed upon marketing services such as:
    • Consulting
    • Marketing Plan
    • Professional Training & Lectures – Sales, Software etc.
    • Media Planning & Buying
    • Graphic Design
    • Web Design
    • Research
    • Newsletters
    • Press Kits
    • Event Planning
  • Imagewest has traveled abroad to work with four international clients
  • Imagewest utilizes the revenue it generates to fund the trip and provide Summer Abroad Internship Scholarships to cover a portion of the student’s airfare
  • Client provides a variety of things including acceptable housing and work area
  • The agency is part of Western Kentucky University’s School of Journalism and Broadcasting’s Center for 21st Century Media Program of Distinction, which is approved and funded by Kentucky’s Council on Post-Secondary Education Regional Excellence Trust Fund

The Students

  • The majority of students who participate are Advertising, Graphic Design and Public Relations majors
  • Students earn course credit during the internship – JOUR 481 Imagewest Internship Abroad. The course is divided into three parts: research/analysis, design/development, and evaluation.
  • Over 18 students have participated
  • Trip costs are minimal for students including a portion of the airfare expense, food, passport, immunizations, spending money and misc.
  • Opportunity for students to develop confidence, skills, experience, and enhance their portfolios
  • Interns at Imagewest communicate with clients face-to-face
  • Interns work hands-on as a team on agency projects from conception to completion
  • Students have an advantage over other graduates in the job market by completing an internship and having “real-world” international experience
